Fever vs. Wings Prediction: Indiana Looks to Stay Perfect in August at Dallas

The Fever haven’t lost since the calendar hit August, and the Wings haven’t won since Bueckers hung 44 combined points on two straight opponents — something has to give at American Airlines Center on Thursday night.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Indiana Fever -2.5
  • Why: Indiana’s won five straight while Dallas has dropped seven of its last nine, and the Fever already beat the Wings on their own floor advantage six days ago
  • The number to watch: Dallas is 1-5 without Azzi Fudd on the floor this season, and she’s currently sidelined with a knee injury

Indiana rolls into Dallas at 24-12, locked into the East’s top seed and playing its best basketball of the summer. The Wings, meanwhile, are clinging to the West’s final playoff spot at 20-16 after a brutal 2-7 stretch since the All-Star break turned a promising first half into a genuine survival scramble.

These two just played six days ago in Indianapolis, where Caitlin Clark tweaked her ankle in the first half, walked it off, and still finished with 29 points and 10 assists in a 98-87 Fever win. Dallas was without both Fudd and Jessica Shepard that night. Fudd is again questionable for the rematch, which matters more than almost anything else on Dallas’s injury report.

The Odds Have Shifted Since Tip-Off Week

Indiana opened as a favorite in the -2.5 to -3.5 range depending on the book, with the moneyline settling in the -148 to -160 range and the total sitting around 185.5-186.5. Kalshi’s market has Indiana at a 56% implied win probability, and Dimers’ simulation model — built off 10,000 runs — lands on a projected 93-91 Fever win, a razor-thin two-point margin that’s actually tighter than the sportsbook line suggests.

That’s the interesting wrinkle here: several models like Indiana to win outright but see value on Dallas covering the plus-side of the spread, given how competitive this series has been the last two meetings. Bettors weighing that split are better off running the numbers through a betting calculator before deciding which side of the number actually makes sense for their bankroll.

Bueckers Is Fading at the Worst Possible Time

Paige Bueckers has been terrific this season — 20.5 points, 5.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds a night — but her numbers have cratered since the All-Star break. Pre-break, she was averaging 20.9 points on 51.3% shooting and a scorching 39.7% from three. Since the break: 19.3 points on 48.2% shooting and just 32.5% from deep, with her turnovers climbing at the same time. She’s also produced three of her eight least-efficient shooting nights of the year in just the last two weeks, including a 6-point clunker against Connecticut.

Kelsey Mitchell has been the steadier hand for Indiana across that same stretch, averaging 24.2 points a night on 50.4% shooting — the second-highest scoring average in the entire league — and she’s shooting an even better 43.5% from three. When Clark draws the extra defensive attention, Mitchell has made teams pay every single night.

Dallas is 19-11 with Fudd in the lineup this season and just 1-5 without her.

That split is the single biggest swing factor in this game. Fudd’s ability to space the floor and take defensive pressure off Bueckers has been the difference between a competitive Wings team and one that’s lost seven of nine. If she’s limited or out again Thursday, Dallas is fighting uphill against a Fever team that’s clearly figured something out defensively — Indiana’s held its last five opponents in check while riding a five-game winning streak into this rematch.

The Wings also went 6-15 against other playoff-caliber teams this season, a number that should worry anyone backing them here. Indiana, currently the East’s No. 1 seed, is exactly the kind of opponent that record was built against. Dallas did manage to flip the script briefly against Toronto on Aug. 12, snapping a three-game skid, but that kind of one-off bounce-back hasn’t translated into any sustained answer for elite competition.

Prediction and Best Bet

Indiana’s won the first meeting, has the better injury report, is riding real momentum, and gets a Dallas team that’s lost its best perimeter complement to Bueckers for long stretches. The Wings have shown they can hang for stretches — Bueckers had 29 points in the first meeting alone — but closing out a desperate, slumping opponent on the road is a different task than beating one at home.

The pick:

  1. Prediction: Indiana Fever 92, Dallas Wings 87
  2. Best Bet: Indiana Fever on the moneyline

Lay the price with the team playing complete basketball right now — Indiana’s defense and depth are simply built for a desperate Dallas squad missing a key piece.
