When both teams locked in their spot in Super Bowl LIX a couple of weeks ago, we were surprised to see how close this game looked to be despite the oddsmakers believing it would be a shootout. The Chiefs open the odds as slight favorites at -1.5, while the total sits at a hefty 48.5 points.

Kansas City’s moneyline is set at -127, with the Eagles as slight underdogs at +107, which just goes to show how closely matched these teams are. The 48.5-point total tells us that we should expect a relatively higher-scoring game.

Of course, both teams are no strangers to the big stage so we can rule out any butterflies or pressure that would typically wear down an offense. Kansas City has shown remarkable resilience in close games, boasting a 17-game winning streak in one-score games which includes the postseason. Philadelphia counters with the NFL’s best time of possession and a dominant rushing attack led by Saquon Barkley, who just wrapped up a career year.

So, it’ll be a close one, but who will come out on top and win Super Bowl LIX?

The Chiefs come into this game as the epitome of clutch. As we’ve all witnessed this season, the Chiefs know how to close out a game even when it doesn’t look good for them.

With Patrick Mahomes at the helm, they are 12-0 in one-score games this season. That is a record-breaking achievement on its own.

Mahomes, who threw for 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions during the season, has found ways to rally his team even when trailing by double digits. There aren’t too many NFL QBs that can pull that off, but then again, here we are. However, his Super Bowl numbers have been a bit more pedestrian, throwing 7 touchdowns against 5 picks across 4 appearances.

We think that Philadelphia’s path to victory lies in their ability to dominate possession and lean on their run game. After all, they’re easily the best-running offense in the league. Barkley has been unstoppable this postseason, averaging an eye-popping 147.3 rushing yards per game. The Chiefs’ run defense, which ranked 8th during the regular season, has struggled in the playoffs as they surrendered 148 rushing yards per game. They’ll have to step up in a big way if they want to remain competitive throughout the full 60 minutes.

Jalen Hurts, though not as flashy with his arm this season — as he threw 18 touchdowns and 5 interceptions — has been efficient enough in managing games and getting the win. Philadelphia’s offensive strategy will likely revolve around keeping Mahomes on the sideline by controlling the clock with Barkley and their top-tier offensive line. If Barkley isn’t enough to worry about, Hurts is one of the few quarterbacks who has the legs of a running back, so there is that option as well.

Defensively, the Eagles hold a significant edge.

Their pass rush, led by Nolan Smith with 4 sacks this postseason and Jalen Carter with 20 QB pressures, has been nothing less than dominant. Combine that with a turnover differential of +8, and you have a defense built to frustrate Kansas City and keep them from breaking the game wide-open.

The Eagles also deploy a two-high safety shell under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. This is a scheme that has historically given Mahomes trouble by limiting his big-play potential, but it might just give Travis Kelce the room he needs underneath.

Prediction and Our Best Bet

Super Bowl predictions are always difficult, but we feel pretty good about this one despite it looking to be a close game.

This game has all the makings of another classic. The Chiefs’ track record in high-pressure moments is hard for anyone to ignore, but the numbers point to Philadelphia holding the upper hand in the trenches.

Barkley’s ability to wear down Kansas City’s defense could be the deciding factor above all else. If the Eagles can keep Mahomes off the field and force him into mistakes with their relentless pass rush, they’re in prime position to win and walk away with the Lombardi Trophy.

  • HelloRookie’s Prediction: Eagles 31, Chiefs 28
  • Best Bet: Eagles moneyline (+107)

Philadelphia’s ability to control the game with their run game and defense gives them a slight edge in one of the most anticipated Super Bowls in history. They have the tools to exploit Kansas City’s weaknesses, particularly on the ground. We’re going to back the Eagles to claim revenge in New Orleans and lift the Lombardi Trophy once again. The Kansas City Chiefs streak will come to an end tonight.
