Milwaukee is one win from the brink of history and the Dodgers are out of margin for error, and both of those facts collide tonight at Dodger Stadium.
Quick take:
- Pick: Dodgers -1.5 on the run line
- Why: Los Angeles finally gets a true ace matchup at home, and a desperate lineup in an elimination-adjacent spot tends to swing bats differently than it did in Milwaukee.
- The number to watch: Brewers relievers have allowed just 1 earned run in 28 2/3 postseason innings — if Milwaukee’s bullpen doesn’t crack, nothing else here matters.
The Brewers didn’t just win the first two games of this NLCS, they dominated them. Milwaukee (103-59) took both contests in Milwaukee, 2-1 and then 7-4, riding a William Contreras-powered offense and a bullpen that has been nearly untouchable all October. The Dodgers (100-62), the two-time defending World Series champions, now have to win four of the next five just to survive, and they have to start that climb in front of their own fans.
This series moves to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Wednesday night, and the storylines write themselves. The last time the Dodgers trailed 2-0 in a series was 2020, when they came back to beat Atlanta in the NLCS before winning it all. History says it’s possible. Their last six at-bats with runners in scoring position this postseason — 2-for-26 — say it’s not going to be easy.
Vegas still trusts Los Angeles here, with the Dodgers sitting around -175 to -182 favorites on the moneyline and a 7.5 run total, but that line is doing a lot of work to paper over how thoroughly Milwaukee has outclassed this roster through two games. The top of the Dodgers’ order — Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández and Shohei Ohtani — combined to go 1-for-13 with one walk in Game 2, and Ohtani is now slashing .150/.261/.150 for the series.
| Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
| Milwaukee Brewers | +1.5 (-155) | +150 | O 7.5 (-104) |
| Los Angeles Dodgers | -1.5 (120) | -178 | U 7 (100) |
Dave Roberts confirmed Tuesday that Ohtani will stay in the lineup despite the slump and reported internal discussion about benching him, which tells you how concerned the organization is about generating any offense behind him. Blake Snell gets the ball for Los Angeles, and he’s been excellent at home in 2026 — a 2.19 ERA in five starts at Dodger Stadium, postseason included — with a track record against this exact opponent that should scare Milwaukee: 10 strikeouts and the minimum faced across eight scoreless innings the last time he saw the Brewers, in last year’s NLCS.
Both clubs arrive hot in their own way — Milwaukee riding a five-game winning streak, Los Angeles having won three straight before this series started, only to get run over twice at home.

Robert Gasser’s path to a Game 3 NLCS start is one of this postseason’s better stories — he began the year at Triple-A Nashville and has pitched his way into a 2-0 record with a 1.73 ERA over his last seven appearances, including a strong NLDS Game 4 outing. He’s a left-hander, which matters against an Ohtani who has been dramatically worse facing lefties this year, clearing even modest hitting marks just once in 11 games since mid-August.
But Gasser hasn’t faced a lineup with this much institutional pressure on it yet, and the Dodgers’ own pitching depth gives them a path even if the bats stay cold a bit longer. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who entered this series 8-1 with a 2.14 ERA in 11 career postseason appearances, got roughed up in Game 2 — proof nobody on this Dodgers staff is immune to what Milwaukee’s lineup is doing right now.
Milwaukee’s bullpen has allowed one earned run in 28 2/3 postseason innings — the single most dominant number in this series.
That bullpen is the real obstacle for Los Angeles, not just tonight’s starter. Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby combined to retire the final 15 Dodgers hitters in order in Game 2. If L.A.’s offense doesn’t get ahead early against Gasser, that relief corps is built to close the door the same way it has all month. William Contreras, now hitting .391 with three homers and five RBI this postseason, remains the engine Milwaukee leans on whenever the game is tight.
Los Angeles has too much pride, too much starting pitching talent in Snell, and too much familiarity with this ballpark to get swept at home without a fight. Expect the Dodgers’ order to finally wake up enough to grab control of a game for the first time this series, even if Milwaukee’s bullpen makes the final innings uncomfortable.
The pick:
Snell’s track record against this exact Brewers lineup, plus a desperate crowd at Dodger Stadium, is enough to back Los Angeles covering, even against the hottest team left in October. Fans tracking the live MLB odds should expect this number to keep moving as first pitch nears.
