Brewers vs. Angels Prediction: Milwaukee Eyes Sweep Behind Misiorowski

The Milwaukee Brewers have already claimed the first two games of this series in Anaheim, and now they’ve got a chance to complete the road sweep against a last-place Angels club that just can’t find its footing.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Brewers -1.5
  • Why: Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound off a 1.58 ERA against an Angels lineup that’s lost eight of its last 10
  • The number to watch: Misiorowski’s 0.75 WHIP over his last 20 starts

Milwaukee rolls into Angel Stadium at 67-41, comfortably atop the NL Central and playing some of the best baseball in the sport this season. Los Angeles, meanwhile, sits at 42-67, buried in the AL West basement and already looking ahead to next year. The Brewers took Friday’s opener and Saturday’s game by matching 5-2 scorelines, and they’re set up to finish the job Sunday afternoon with their best starter on the bump.

This is a study in contrasts up and down the roster. Milwaukee’s pitching staff ranks second in the majors in team ERA at 3.51, and the lineup has produced the fourth-best batting average in baseball. The Brewers have won eight of their last 10 games and enter Sunday with the best run differential in the National League. Los Angeles has been unable to keep pace in nearly any facet of the game, and a lineup that was already thin has been further undercut by injuries to key contributors.

Why the Number Looks Lopsided

Books have made Milwaukee a heavy favorite for the finale, with the moneyline sitting around -215 and the run line set at -1.5. FanDuel’s market has the total at 7.5, a touch lower than the first two games in this series, which suggests oddsmakers expect another pitching-dominant afternoon. The spread pricing reflects real separation between these two rosters right now — Milwaukee has been one of MLB’s most complete teams, while the Angels have simply been overwhelmed the past two nights. Bettors tracking live MLB odds have watched this line hold firm since the series opener, a sign the market isn’t expecting much regression from either side.

Misiorowski’s Dominance Meets an Angels Lineup Missing Its Spark

Jacob Misiorowski has been must-watch theater all season, striking out 185 batters in 120 innings while running a 1.58 ERA and a microscopic 0.75 WHIP. His last 15 starts have been even better — a 1.33 ERA with 139 strikeouts — and he’s been death on right-handed and left-handed hitters alike thanks to a fastball that’s touched triple digits with regularity. Walbert Urena counters for the Angels off a respectable 2.70 ERA, but he’s working with far less margin for error behind him.

Mike Trout is technically back from his hamstring strain and mashing again — an .853 OPS with 18 homers — but this is still a lineup that ranks near the bottom of the league offensively, and Yoan Moncada remains out with a knee issue that’s sapped even more thump from the middle of the order. The rotation isn’t in much better shape either — Grayson Rodriguez and Yusei Kikuchi are both dealing with injuries of their own, which has forced Los Angeles to lean on inexperienced arms just to get through a series against a lineup like Milwaukee’s.

Milwaukee isn’t dealing with a clean bill of health either. Brandon Woodruff remains sidelined with a shoulder issue and Kyle Harrison is also out, but the Brewers have enough pitching depth to absorb those losses in a way the Angels simply can’t match. That depth has been the story of Milwaukee’s season — when one arm goes down, another steps up, and the results haven’t slipped.

Misiorowski has punched out at least 10 batters in eight different starts this season.

That kind of swing-and-miss stuff is exactly what neutralizes an Angels offense that’s been prone to long scoreless stretches. Christian Yelich has quietly been part of the problem for opposing pitchers lately, too — even in a down offensive year by his standards, he’s driven in 31 runs and has come through with clutch hits in this very series. When Milwaukee’s lineup chips away for even a couple of runs behind a Misiorowski start, that’s usually enough.

It rarely takes much more than that.

Prediction and Best Bet

Milwaukee has controlled every phase of this series, and there’s no reason to expect that changes with its ace on the mound for the getaway game. The Angels haven’t shown the offensive spark to hang around late, and Misiorowski’s strikeout numbers suggest another quiet day at the plate for Los Angeles.

The pick:

  1. Prediction: Brewers 5, Angels 2
  2. Best Bet: Brewers -1.5

Milwaukee completes the sweep behind a dominant Misiorowski start, and the run line covers comfortably in the process.
