If you have never built a same game parlay, Sunday’s ALCS Game 5 is a nice place to learn. The Tampa Bay Rays visit the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field at 5:08 PM ET with the series tied 2-2, and it is the only game on the MLB board. A same game parlay (SGP) simply means stacking several bets from one game into a single ticket, and every leg has to win for the ticket to cash.

Our four-leg build for this game is Rays moneyline, Over 6.5 total runs, Drew Rasmussen Over 5.5 strikeouts and Yandy Diaz to record a hit. Below we walk through why each leg makes sense in plain English, and then put the full ticket together. Check your sportsbook for the combined price, since SGP odds vary by book.

Leg 1: Rays Moneyline Behind Rasmussen

Tampa Bay is a modest favorite, listed around -128 on the moneyline against a Guardians price near +106. A moneyline bet just means you are picking the winner, which makes it the easiest leg to understand. The Rays also have the best arm in the matchup. Rasmussen is 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA this postseason and has struck out 17 batters against just two walks in 14 innings across two starts.

Tampa Bay comes in with momentum after a 7-3 win in Game 4, powered by Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda and Yandy Diaz. The Guardians counter with rookie lefty Parker Messick (0-2, 3.09 ERA), who has walked eight batters in 11 2/3 postseason innings. Free passes tend to turn into runs in October, and that is the main reason we lean Tampa Bay here.

Leg 2: Over 6.5 Total Runs

Totals bets are about the combined score of both teams, and this one is set at 6.5 with the Over priced around -114. That may seem odd with two quality starters on the mound, but the Over has real support. Dimers’ model rates Over 6.5 as its top play on Sunday’s slate, and the Covers parlay card also pairs the Rays with the Over.

Part of the case is how Cleveland has handled its bullpen. The Guardians used six relievers in Game 4, which is why manager Stephen Vogt said he needs Messick to go deep. If he cannot, Cleveland will lean on tired arms against a Rays lineup that just scored seven. Remember that the Under has been a popular lean in this series, so this leg carries some risk. That is a good lesson in itself, because every leg you add is another way for a parlay to fail.

Leg 3: Drew Rasmussen Over 5.5 Strikeouts

A strikeout prop asks one simple question: will the pitcher record at least six strikeouts? Rasmussen is listed at Over 5.5 at around -120. He had at least six strikeouts in 15 of his 30 starts this season, including both of his regular-season outings against Cleveland, and he fanned seven in Game 1 of this series over six innings.

The Guardians struck out in 21.1 percent of plate appearances against right-handers at home in the second half, and current Cleveland hitters are batting just .196 against Rasmussen across 96 career plate appearances. The one thing to watch is the pitch count, since a short outing would limit his chances.

Leg 4: Yandy Diaz to Record a Hit

A player hit prop is the most beginner-friendly bet in baseball: will he get at least one hit? Diaz, the Rays’ designated hitter, collected 180 hits this season and hit .293. The market prices him at Over 0.5 hits near -227, which tells you the books expect him to get on base. That price also explains why we use him as a supporting leg rather than the headline bet, since heavily favored legs add safety without adding much payout.

Diaz also helped fuel Saturday’s Game 4 win, and because he is projected to hit first in the Tampa Bay order he should see plenty of at-bats. If you are new to prop bets, this kind of low-line player prop is a good place to start. The Full Parlay

Put it together and the ticket reads: Rays moneyline, Over 6.5 total runs, Rasmussen Over 5.5 strikeouts and Diaz Over 0.5 hits. The story that connects the legs is simple. Rasmussen racks up strikeouts and gives Tampa Bay the edge on the mound, Diaz keeps the offense moving, and Cleveland’s taxed bullpen helps push the game over the total if Messick struggles with his command.
