3 NFL Best Bets and Predictions for Thanksgiving Day: Will Lambeau Be Too Cold for Tua?
Who’s ready to eat themselves into a coma while watching the NFL? We are! Our NFL insider shares his 3 best bets and predictions for Thanksgiving Day. Thanks for reading and enjoy the holiday, folks!
New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys
The New York Giants have become the laughingstock of the league this season. After letting Saquon Barkley walk and go to a division rival, with the decision being filmed on the show Hard Knocks, things only got worse. Barkley is a front-runner for league MVP and the Eagles are 9-2 on the season.
The Giants decided to pitch their wagon to Danny Dimes at QB and that has completely blown up in their faces to the point that they let him go last week to avoid a potential injury pay. Last week they decided to start Tommy DeVito over 2nd string Drew Lock against the Bucs. They lost the game 30-7. They were held to just 245 total yards and gave up 450 yards to Tampa Bay.
Dallas was involved in one of the strangest games of the season. They led the Commanders 10-9 after 3 quarters but that was all before the fun began. Leading 20-17, KaVontae Turpin took a kickoff return for a touchdown to extend the lead to 10.
After a field goal by Washington, Dallas went 3 and out and allowed Jayden Daniels to connect with Terry McLaurin on an 86-yard catch and run to cut the lead to 1 with the extra point pending. Austin Seibert missed the PAT and then on the ensuing onside kick, Dallas returned it for another touchdown to pick up the 34-26.
Best Bet: Cowboys -3.5
In a game that many people are not too excited to watch, there is still an edge to be had. Despite the wildness of the Dallas win, their offense looked capable for the 1st time all season.
And outside of the near collapse in the final quarter, the defense was keeping a strong Washington offense in check. We believe that momentum will carry into this game and allow the Cowboys to taste victory once again.
Key Trends:
- New York is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games.
- New York is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games when playing as the underdog.
- Dallas is 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games against NY Giants.
- Dallas is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games when playing at home against NY Giants.
Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions
The Bears re still searching for their 1st win since their bye week which came 5 weeks ago. At 4-7, Chicago needs to get back in the win column quickly. Last week, they trailed the Vikings 24-10 heading into the 4th quarter. Caleb Williams was able to get things tied and send the game into overtime.
However, after a 3 and out, the Vikings orchestrated a game-winning drive that ended with a 29-yard field goal. The Bears were held to under 80 yards on the ground, but Caleb Williams did throw for over 300 yards in the loss. DJ Moore and Keenan Allen combined for 16 receptions, 192 yards, and 2 touchdowns. They will need to do a better job at establishing the run to get back to their winning ways.
The Lions won their 10th game of the season last week and look like the best team in the league. David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have combined to be the toughest rushing attack in all football. They accounted for all 3 of the Lions touchdowns last week in their 24-6 road victory over the Colts.
More impressive was the defense. They have gone back-to-back games of allowing just 6 points and with one of the most explosive offenses in the league, if they are able to stay consistent on defense, the sky is the limit for this squad.
Best Bet: Lions -10
The spread is high at -10 but honestly, this game could get out of hand quickly. The way this Detroit defense is playing and with Caleb Williams being susceptible to making major mistakes, we believe the Lions are going to comfortably take this game.
The Bears are allowing an average of 151 rushing yards per game over their last 5 losses. Now they face the best rushing attack in the league. Lions win this one going away.
Key Trends:
- Chicago is 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games on the road.
- Chicago is 1-15 ATS in their last 16 games played in week 13.
- Detroit is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Detroit is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games when playing as the favorite.
Miami Dolphins vs Green Bay Packers
Do not look know but the Miami Dolphins, with a healthy Tua at QB are currently on a 3-game winning streak. Over that stretched, they are averaging just a tick over 30ppg. They used a 24-0 2nd quarter last week to launch their 34-15 divisional win over the New England Patriots.
Tua is averaging over 270 passing yards per game over their last 3 and gradually increased the yardage in each game. He has also tossed 8 touchdowns to just 1 interception. The offense has completely thrived since his return. Quietly, the defense has also benefitted from his return and extended drives. They are allowing just 16.3ppg during their win streak, compared to the 19.5 they had been allowing on the season. Miami is sneakily becoming one of the most dangerous teams in the AFC.
Green Bay comes into this turkey day game after winning 6 of their last 7, including their last 2. In a game that seemed like a must win for the Niners, turned into a thrashing, albeit with the Niners missing Brock Purdy. The Packers dominated from the start and routed the Niners 38-10.
Josh Jacobs took his 26 carries for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns. His ability to dominate the ground game took the pressure off Jordan Love who finished with 163, 2 touchdown passes, but connected on only 56.5% of his passes. Going forward, Love will need to be consistent in the passing game and avoid his costly turnovers.
Dolphins +3.5
Miami has been playing their best football of the season recently and now face a Green Bay team that has been playing just as well. The difference in this one is going to be turnovers.
We trust Tua more than Love to take care of the ball and make less risky plays in this one. Miami’s defense will travel and if they can keep Jacobs in check, they should be able to contend here on the road.
Key Trends:
- Miami is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- Miami is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games played in week 13.
- Green Bay is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games.
