3 MLB Strikeout Props to Back on May 14, 2026

The Thursday MLB slate arrives with 11 games and a handful of starting pitchers whose strikeout profiles stand well above their posted lines. When you can identify arms with elite swing-and-miss stuff facing lineups that struggle to make contact, that is the edge you are looking for in the props market. Three pitchers today fit that description.

These picks come from game-time research on pitcher stats, season-long strikeout rates, and matchup context. The lines listed are representative of what books are posting this morning, so always confirm current numbers at your preferred sportsbook before placing a wager.

Chris Sale Keeps Racking Up Strikeouts in Atlanta

Chris Sale has been one of the most consistent strikeout performers in baseball through the first six weeks of 2026. Through eight starts he owns a 2.20 ERA, a 10.29 K/9 rate, and 56 strikeouts across 49 innings. His most recent outing produced 11 strikeouts over seven innings against Colorado, and he followed that with nine Ks in six innings against Philadelphia on April 26. The swing-and-miss is very real this season.

Tonight Sale faces the Chicago Cubs at Truist Park. Chicago comes in hitting .237 as a team and ranking among the bottom third of the league in strikeout resistance. Pitchers with Sale’s fastball-slider combination have consistently generated double-digit swings and misses against this Cubs lineup in recent weeks. Sale’s strikeout line is typically set in the 6.5 to 7.5 range at most books, and his recent floor has been six in every start except his rough April 6 outing against Los Angeles. The matchup supports the over.

At home in Atlanta, Sale has been particularly sharp. He has not allowed more than one run in any of his home starts this season. A low-stress outing where he is cruising deep into games is exactly the environment where strikeout totals accumulate. Back Sale to go over his K line tonight.

Ranger Suarez Returns Healthy and Ready Against Philly

Ranger Suarez is pitching for the first time since May 3 tonight, returning from a minor hamstring scare to face his former Philadelphia Phillies club at Fenway Park. The left-hander signed a big deal with Boston over the winter and has been excellent through his first seven outings, going 2-2 with a 2.77 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP across 39 innings. His strikeout-to-walk ratio sits at 32:10, a healthy number that reflects his plus command.

The matchup element here is compelling. Suarez faces a Phillies lineup built around right-handed contact hitters, and his low-to-mid 90s sinker with a sharp changeup has historically generated high groundball rates against this type of lineup. His best start of the season came April 27 against Toronto, where he struck out 10 batters over eight shutout innings. Even in shorter outings, his strikeout pace tends to run around seven per start when fully healthy.

Pitching with extra rest and motivated against his former team, Suarez profiles as a prime over candidate. His line is typically set around 5.5 at most books. Given his April strikeout pace of 26 Ks across 30.2 innings and the favorable home park setting at Fenway, the over looks like the right play. Check your book for current lines.

Chase Burns Enters Tonight With 48 Strikeouts on the Season

Chase Burns is one of the most exciting young pitchers in the National League right now. The 23-year-old Cincinnati right-hander owns a 4-1 record with a 2.11 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 47 innings through his first eight starts of 2026. His slider has a 47 percent whiff rate this season, and he posted 30 strikeouts in his first five outings back in April. That is the kind of elite bat-missing stuff that makes strikeout props worth targeting.

Burns draws the Washington Nationals today at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Washington ranks as an above-average strikeout offense in terms of getting struck out, meaning Burns can expect to work through a lineup that will swing and miss against his arsenal. His recent form has been steady, including six strong innings with two strikeouts against Houston on May 9. That was a slightly quieter game than his ceiling, but he still delivered quality work while limiting damage.

The caveat with Burns is that his last two starts have shown a slight dip in strikeout volume compared to his April explosion, so the line has likely settled in a conservative range around 5.5. His season K/9 of roughly 9.2 still supports the over with regularity. In a favorable home matchup against a Washington lineup that lacks consistent contact hitters up and down the order, Burns is a strong candidate to reach six or more strikeouts tonight.

The Picks for May 14

All three of these pitchers have the strikeout stuff to exceed their lines tonight. Sale is the headliner given his elite rate and prime matchup, while Suarez and Burns offer value against lineups that project to generate plenty of swings and misses. Here are the plays in summary.

  • Chris Sale OVER 6.5 Strikeouts (check your book for current lines)
  • Ranger Suarez OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (check your book for current lines)
  • Chase Burns OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (check your book for current lines)

As always, shop your books for the best number available and confirm lines before placing. Good luck tonight.
