3 College Football Player Props for Saturday, August 24: Why We Love RJ Maryland
We’ve finally made it to the college football season! If you’ve been playing the new video game, you might be in the zone already, making this week’s contests that much more exciting.
The NFL regular season is just over two weeks away, but thankfully for football junkies, Week Zero is the perfect fix for you to catch some meaningful action.
There are several games taking place this weekend, but we’ve decided to hone in on a few key matchups, providing our favorite player props from Underdog. Without further ado, let’s dive into the best plays!
DJ Uiagalelei (FSU) UNDER 231.5 Passing Yards
What better way to start the college football season than a great matchup between Florida State and Georgia Tech? DJ Uiagalelei looked pretty good last year, and with the potential for him to be in the 2025 NFL Draft pool, he’s going to want to start this season on the right foot.
While he might have a decent game, we think this line is far too high, especially considering how strong Georgia Tech’s defense is.
They routinely held opposing quarterbacks under 230 yards last season, and while Uiagalelei has some upside, we don’t think he’s going to be the player to cross this threshold.
Preston Stone (SMU) OVER 230.5 Passing Yards
We might be fading Uiagelelei and the Florida State offense, but that is not the case for Preston Stone and SMU. They’re taking on Nevada this week, a team that struggled mightily on defense last year.
Stone looked great in his final three games of the 2023 season, averaging 280.6 passing yards per contest. This is the perfect storm for Stone to start the year on the right foot, so we’re taking the over on his passing yardage prop.
RJ Maryland (SMU) OVER 44.5 Receiving Yards
If we’re projecting Stone to have a big game, we wanted to target a receiver that had good odds of catching a lot of his passes. Maryland is the perfect player to have a big first game, as he was one of Stone’s favorite targets last season.
He had at least 45 receiving yards in three of his last five games of the season last year, an indication that their chemistry grew immensely as the season went on.
With that in mind, we’re taking the over on his yardage prop here, hoping he can win a lot of 50/50 battles down the stretch.
