2 Monday Night Football Best Bets for September 23: How Much Can Higgins Help Cincy?

2 Monday Night Football Best Bets for September 23

NFL fans will be treated to a nice doubleheader on Monday, September 23. We have two best bets on the docket for these games, so check them out below!

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Buffalo Bills

The Jacksonville Jaguars are still searching for their 1st win of the season after losing last week at home against the Cleveland Browns 18-13. Trevor Lawrence was sacked 4 times in the loss and the defense allowed 125 rushing yards in the loss.

Travis Etienne was able to find paydirt for the 2nd straight game but he will need more help from the offense to turn this 0-2 start around. Things will not get any easier tonight as they face the 2-0 Buffalo Bills on the road for 1 of the 2 Monday Night Football games.

Buffalo has been playing above expectations to this point in the season. With the loss of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis over the offseason, many expected this offense to take a step backward. However, it has been the opposite as Buffalo currently ranks 2nd in the league in points per game (32.5).

After defeating Arizona in week one 34-28, they followed up with a 31-point performance against the Miami Dolphins to give them a 31-10 victory. In the Miami game, James Cook went off for 3 touchdowns while the defense forced 3 turnovers and ended the night early for Tua Tagovailoa.

Best Bet: Bills -5.5

We expect the defense to bring the same type of heat tonight against a Jacksonville offensive line that has allowed 7 sacks through 2 games. This Jaguar team lost their opener to the same Miami team that Buffalo just dismantled.

Buffalo will likely give a heavy dose of Cook and Allen on the ground but do not be surprised to see either Khalil Shakir or Keon Coleman to have a breakout game. Give us the Bills here to win by at least a touchdown

Key Trends for Jaguars at Bills:

  • Jacksonville is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games.
  • Jacksonville is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games played on a Monday.
  • Buffalo is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games played in September.
  • Buffalo is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games played in week 3.

Prop Play Leans:

  • Khalil Shakir Anytime TD: +260
  • Travis Etienne UNDER 49.5 Rush Yards: -113

Washington Commanders vs Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals play hosts to the visiting Washington Commanders in the later game of this double feature Monday Night Football schedule. The Bengals were unable to bounce back from a wild upset loss in their opener against the New England Patriots when they went to Arrowhead last week. They led 16-10 at the half and then 22-17 heading into the 4th quarter.

After a Joe Burrow fumble was scooped up and scored by Chamarri Conner, Evan McPhearson knocked in a 53-yard field goal to take back the lead with under 10 minutes to play. As KC mounted a final drive, a controversial pass interference call was made on Cincinnati that put the Chiefs in field goal range and Harrison Butker put a 51-yarder through to hand the Bengals another loss.

The Commanders were successful in their week two matchup. After falling to the Buccaneers in week one 37-20, they came home to face the New York Giants. Trailing 18-15 early in the 4th quarter, Jayden Daniels orchestrated two field goal drives, with the final one being the difference in the game and gave the Commanders their 1st win of the season and Daniels his 1st win of his career. Despite being sacked 5 times, Daniels showed veteran poise on the final drive of the game and may be something Commanders will get accustomed to seeing as this season moves on.

Best Bet: Bengals -7.5

The Cincinnati Bengals are extremely desperate for a win tonight. Since 1990, only 4 of the 162 teams that have started 0-3 have made the playoffs. If the Bengals want to avoid having only a 2.5% chance of the postseason, they will need to get a win tonight.

The good news for them, Tee Higgins looks to be back in the lineup. Joe Burrow will have another weapon on the outside and while Mike Gesicki has become a tight end threat, things could open more for Ja’Marr Chase.

We like the matchup the Bengals are getting here at home against a mediocre Commanders team and believe the Bengals not only win but also cover the number.

Key Trends for Commanders at Bengals:

  • Washington is 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games played on a Monday.
  • Washington is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games when playing as the underdog.
  • Cincinnati is 7-0-2 ATS in their last 9 games against an opponent in the NFC.
  • Cincinnati is 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games played in week 3.

Prop Play Leans:

  • Chase Brown Anytime TD: +230
  • Mike Gesicki OVER 25.5 Receiving Yards: -113
