Our Draft Strategy for WR in 2022
In our RB rankings article, we talked about how important it is to get two quality RBs early on in your fantasy draft. This is because there are a limited number of difference-maker RBs each year. The opposite is true of the WR position.
It seems like each and every year there are three or four rookie wideouts that end up producing at a high level. Ja’Marr Chase, Devonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle certainly did not disappoint in that regard last season. This year’s rookie class looks also pretty strong with guys like Drake London, Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, and Jameson Williams coming into the league.
What this means is that you shouldn’t be afraid to take a chance on a rookie at WR, especially if they end up getting paired with a pretty decent QB. It also means to not freak out if you don’t get a Top 10 WR in your draft. The overall depth of the position means that you should be able to wait until Round 3 to draft a WR.
This year, we have our eye on a guy like CeeDee Lamb, who should get even more receptions now that Amari Cooper has moved to the Browns. Also, Devonta Smith may be a nice option in the later rounds, especially if Jalen Hurts continues to improve as a passer.
Finally, don’t sleep on a wily old veteran like Brandin Cooks, who always seems to produce no matter what team he is on. Other guys like Jarvis Landry and Elijah Moore would be nice additions who should be available in the later rounds of your draft. Best of luck in your quest to build the perfect fantasy roster.
